On July 20, 2024, the art exhibition “About Obedience” by the author Pero Kovancaliev opened at the premises of the Bitola Artists’ Association. The exhibition consists of about twenty miniature accumulations of auricle shells with associative forms made of bronze, aluminum and polyester.
The exhibition was opened by the president of DLUB, Vasko Gjorgiev, who, among other things, said that the author symbolically takes the ear as a basic element for his works. Obedience is the link that balances between order and chaos, between passions and rationality. With this exhibition, the author examines the human behavior that is responsible for the formation of each of his groupings, without which no social structure would survive.

Also attending the opening was Prof. Dr. Vasko Shutarov, a well-known columnist, diplomat and university professor. The contemporary Macedonian sculptor, M.A. Pero Kovancaliev, through compositions of accumulated ear shells, placed in various formations from the concept “About Obedience”, is in search of the lost public narrative about the balance between obedience and disobedience, in search of that much-needed balance and transition through which obedience is refined into creative self-discipline, and disobedience into freedom of thought and creative act.
Pero Kovantzaliev is a multidisciplinary artist whose work aims to encourage change for sustainable development. He works through sculpture, art installation, kinetics, video and photography, painting, and experimental drawing.
He has held over a dozen solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. He graduated and received his master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. He works as a freelance artist and also works in the field of marketing and protection of cultural heritage.
The exhibition will be open until August 4th.
